The Atonement of Jesus Christ

To atone is to suffer the penalty for sins, thereby removing the effects of sin from the repentant sinner and allowing him or her to be reconciled to God. Jesus Christ was the only one capable of carrying out the Atonement for all mankind. Because of His Atonement, all people will resurrect, and those who obey His gospel will receive the gift of eternal life with God.

Gethsemane and the Crucifixion

Jesus suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane, where he experienced such profound anguish that he sweat drops of blood. After his arrest and trial, Jesus endured brutal flogging—a Roman scourging with a whip embedded with metal balls and sharp bone fragments. Soldiers then twisted a crown of thorns and pressed it onto his head, the sharp spikes piercing his scalp. Jesus carried his own cross through Jerusalem. They nailed through his hands, wrists, and feet; he hung for hours in excruciating pain.

The Resurrection

On the third day, Jesus resurrected and is alive today. Because of this event, all mankind will also resurrect, and may return to live with God in heaven.

Jesus Christ, Savior and Redeemer

Jesus Christ redeemed us from the Fall of Adam and saved and cleansed us from unrighteousness. As Acts 4:12 declares, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
